Liberty Baptist Youth Trip

   The Youth from the Liberty Baptist Church recently returned from a week at the Wilds Christian Camp near Brevard, Carolina.  Tony Crawford, Youth Director, along with teen ministry sponsors, Carlos Baker, Janice Lichtensteiger, and Amanda Maple were the adult sponsors for the trip.

Ice cream social at North Union UM Church
     The North Union United Methodist Church is sponsoring its 28th ice cream social from 4:30 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 21 in its air-conditioned social room.  Carry out service will also be available.  Items featured on the menu are chicken, sloppy joe, hot dog, and chili dog sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, chili soup, potato salad, baked beans, homemade pies and cakes, coffee, iced tea, lemonade, and homemade vanilla and maple nut ice cream.  The location of the church is approximately 31/2 miles north of Van Wert on U. S. Rte. 127.

 

VBS at Wesley United Methodist Church

    Wanted:  Space explorers ages 3 through 5th grade to join a cosmic adventure praising God!

VBS dates scheduled at Trinity Friends

    Trinity Friends Church, located at 605 N. Franklin Street in Van Wert, will present "The Egypt File:  Decoding the Mystery of Life" Vacation Bible School for children age 4 through grade 6 on July 25-29 from 6-9 p.m.  The doors open for sign-in at 5:30 p.m.  Preregistration is now open; call 419.238.2788.  Activities will include crafts, Bible investigation, music, games, and food, all "Egyptian style."  A coin collection will be taken each evening  to support a special overseas mission project.

 

VBS at Ohio City Church of God
    Ohio City Church of God invites all children to Galactic Blast VBS:  A Cosmic Adventure Praising God!  Board the starship Galactic Praise to see our awesome universe-and our awesome God-in a whole new way.  The Fun begins August 2 and ends August 6 from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. at Ohio City Church of God, 204 E. VBS announced at 1st Baptist Church

     First Baptist Church will present Vacation Bible School on July 26-29 from 6:45-9 p.m.  “Set Sail! Spread the Good News!” is the theme.

     Children age 4 through Grade 6 are invited to "set sail" and  take a virtual missionary journey with the Apostle Paul "to discover how God helps us today to spread His Good News."

     Throughout the week children will discover interesting facts about sailing and sea life. They will also learn Bible Lessons that focus on missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul.  Each evening will be packed with stories, music, games, crafts, refreshments, and surprises.

Liberty Baptist dedication speaker set

    Dr. Bob Jones III, former president and present Chancellor of Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C., has been selected to speak at Van Wert’s Liberty Baptist Church’s Building Dedication service at the former Horace Mann School at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 18.

An open house will precede the dedication service.            

     Dr. Jones attended Bob Jones Academy and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bob Jones University. He took additional graduate work at Northwestern University and New York University and holds honorary doctorates from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, Minn.; San Francisco Baptist Theological Seminary in California; and Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wis.

    In 1971,  Dr. Jones was appointed president of Bob Jones University and served in that office for 34 years. He retired from the presidency in May 2005 and was elected chancellor. He remains the chairman of the Board of Trustees. 

    His speaking engagements have taken him to all parts of the world, and he has conducted tours to the Holy Land and Europe.  In connection with the University's tax case before the U.S. Supreme Court, he appeared on such national TV programs as "Nightline" and "Good Morning America" on ABC-TV, Multimedia's "Donahue" program, "The MacNeil/Lehrer Report" on PBS, and "Freeman Reports" on Turner Broadcasting's Cable News Network.

    In recognition of Dr. Jones’ interest in and friendship to the State of South Carolina and her people, Governor David Beasley presented him with the state’s highest civilian award, “The Order of the Palmetto.”  This was presented in conjunction with the University’s 70th year celebration and 50th year in Greenville.
