Buddy Liles to perform at Trinity Friends
One of the best-known and loved bass singers in Gospel music will be in concert in Van Wert on Friday night, November 20. Buddy Liles will join Trinity for the concert at 7 p.m. at Trinity Friends Church.
Liles and his wife, Esther, live in Pensacola, Fla., but he grew up in Newport, Ky., where he accepted the Lord at a young age. He joined the Orrell Quartet of Detroit, Mich., for his first full-time singing job in 1963. He then sang for many years with the Landmark Quartet from the Landmark Baptist Church in Cincinnati.

Lilesis best known for his more than 25 years as the bass singer for the Florida Boys Quartet.
A member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, Lile also received one of the most honorable awards in Gospel music, the Marvin Norcross Award, at the National Quartet convention in 1995.
From a Congressional breakfast, to NBC’s “Today” show, to Gaither videos and concerts, Lile’s face and voice are well known to those who enjoy Gospel music.
Trinity is well known throughout the region for its blend of Southern Gospel music and favorite hymns for church services and concerts, festivals and county fairs, banquets and special events. Trinity vocalists are Gary Adams, Cheryl Burk and Kim Mason, while Stan Burk and Mark Hartman handle sound for the group.
Trinity hosts the annual Southern Gospel Music Expo, four nights of concerts
featuring groups and artists from around the region and across the country. The
2010 event is scheduled for April 8-11 in the Trinity Friends Family Life Center
and will feature the Talley Trio in the finale concert on Sunday evening.

Community Thanksgiving Service planned
A Community Thanksgiving Service hosted by Cooperative
Ministries of Van Wert will be held Sunday, November 22, 7 p.m. at Wesley
United Methodist Church, 551 Center Street, Van Wert. Please bring a
non-perishable food item to donate to the Van Wert County Food Pantry. The
freewill offering will also be in support of the Food Pantry. There will also be
an opportunity to purchase Sechler’s fine pickles in support of the various
ministries of the Co-op. Refreshments will be served immediately following
worship. The public is welcome.
Van Wert Area Boy Choir concert
Van Wert area Boy Choir Christmas Concert will be held
Sunday, December 13, 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 220 S.
Walnut St., Van Wert (419-238-9541). The choir is under the direction of Mr.
Brian Anders. Membership in the choir is open to all elementary and
middle-school aged boys from the area. The concert is free and everyone is
welcome. Refreshments will be served immediately following the concert.
Lemons to speak at Kingsley
Kingsley United Methodist
Church will feature guest speaker Mark Lemons, executive director of the
Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Ky., during the regular Sunday morning service
on Nov. 15. The service will begin at 10:25 a.m.
Lemons is the executive director of Henderson Settlement,
which is part of the Red Bird Conference serving the Appalachian poor in
Kentucky and Tennessee. He has been with the mission since Aug. 1, 2007. Before
that, he spent over 23 years serving in the United States Air Force, retiring
with the rank of Major.
Lemons holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science
and a master’s degree in business organizational management. He and his wife,
Linda, are natives of North Carolina and active members in the United Methodist
Church. Most recently, they lived in Tullahoma, Tenn., where Linda served as
choir director at Epworth United Methodist church in Franklin. The couple has
three children.
Henderson Settlement serves the needy in the
Kentucky/Tennessee Appalachian area with building assistance, food, outreach to
children, and infant care. Van Wert area churches annually send work teams to
the mission to assist with building and mission work. This year’s trip is set
for May 2-8, 2010.
Guests are welcome to attend the service to learn more about
the work of Henderson Settlement. Kingsley is located one-and-a-half miles east
of US 127 on state Route 709—eight miles south of Van Wert.
First UM Church Nov. family activities
First United Methodist Church has announced its schedule of
family activities for November. On Sunday, November 1 from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
preschoolers through junior high and their parents are invited to come and
experience a high-energy introduction to the November Bible Song Lesson,
"Elijah." Families can choose an activity from a variety of "Art Attack"
opportunities, experience the Bible story, learn a scripture verse and receive a
blessing and encouragement..
November 8, 15 and 22 will be spent in age appropriate
classrooms. "The Uptown District" will focus on the story of Elijah. Teachers
are: Tonia Gamble in Studio One; Lisa and Demond Johnson in Joseph and Son
Hardware Store; Bob and Sara Spath in Peace.com 2 and 3 year olds are taught by
Amy and Karlyn Koontz. 4 and 5 year olds are taught by Amy Kopack and Michael
Smelser. Teacher for the 5th and 6th graders is Lesa Exman while the youth
teacher is Mark Scheidt. Young adults are taught by Al Arnold. Pastor's Class
is held in the Conference Room. And the Adult Bible Class taught by Bob Scheidt
is held in room 102. The Hal Hunt class is held in the dining room with David
Zeigler as teacher.
On November 29 families will come together for an Advent
Event during the Sunday school hour. Various activities will be available in
preparation for the season of Advent. The traditional cookie decorating will be
a part of the event.
