Lincolnview Junior High Stands United
in Support of our Veterans
Lincolnview’s junior high students honored Veteran’s Day this
past week by creating appreciation cards that were distributed to Middle
Point’s Amvets and by bringing in a list of veterans that the students knew or
were related to. Their social studies teacher, Mrs. Paula Johnson, then had
the students write their list on strips of construction paper to form a chain.
Mrs. Johnson states: “By the end of the day, the junior high remembered 824
Veterans. The chain wrapped around my room completely once. It was a great
experience for the kids and they shared stories about the Veterans that they
listed – for some it was incredibly moving”
The French Club attended the Komet hockey game in Ft. Wayne on Friday night.
Thirty-three students made it one of our biggest groups yet. Thanks to Craig
and Kathy Staley for volunteering to drive the bus and help chaperone.
The junior high participated in Mix It Up Day last Friday in the cafeteria
during lunch. Mix It Up is a nationwide campaign that supports students who
want to identify, question, and cross social boundaries that separate them
from each other. The cafeteria is an environment where it is easy to see how
students are divided. Most days, students sit at the same table with the same
people. Mix It Up Day is a challenge to step out of your comfort zone and to
sit in a new place with new people. On Friday, members of the junior high
student council gave a random piece of candy to each junior high student as
they entered the lunchroom. Each table was tagged with a different kind of
candy and that determined where the student would sit. The student council
members would like to thank everyone for participating with such an open mind
and a positive attitude which made Mix It Up Day a success for 2009.
