Court judge Phil W. Campbell has released the activity report for the Municipal month of July, 2008. There was a total of 517 cases for the month as follows: 403 Traffic cases, 77 criminal cases and 37 civil cases. The Court performed no wedding.
A total of $57,014.38 in fines and cots was distributed to government agencies by the Municipal Court as follows: $19,121.85 to the State of Ohio; $24,657.94 to the City of Van Wert; $12,159.34 to the County of Van Wert; $54 to Crime Stoppers; $95 to the City of Delphos; $460 to the ODNR; $28.50 to the Paulding County Sheriff's Department; and $437.75 to the Van Wert Sheriff's Office.
The above disbursements include $1021 to legal Aid, $3,318.64 to Victims of Crime and $887 to computerization. During the month a total of $13,444.88 was collected in back fines for a total of $82,610.32. Monies collected for judgment creditors by garnishment for the month totaled $9,625.78. Sheriff's fees in the amount of $437.75 were collected and returned to the sheriff's department.
The nature of the offense and the arresting authority are factors which affect the distribution of the fines.
The charging authorities were: Traffic cases: Driving under the influence (16); State Patrol 9; Van Wert 6; Sheriff 1.. General Traffic (387): OSP 313; Van Wert Police 63; Sheriff 8 and Delphos 3. Criminal charges (77): Van Wert Police 51; Sheriff 10; State Police 5, Delphos PD 1; DOG 4 and ODNR 5.
Probation office: 264 hours of community service were completed by convicted offenders for the month. Defendants on Electronic Monitored House Arrest have contributed, based upon their income, $886 against the cost. There were 210 days at $76 per day of electronically monitored house arrest which saved the county a total of $15,960.
