POLLOCK
    Wayne Pollock, 84, of Van Wert, died at 3:15 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.
    He was born September 24, 1923, in Van Wert County, the son of the late William Ernest and Alwilda (Sherman) Pollock. He married Louise (Shaffer) Pollock, who survives in Van Wert.
    Mr. Pollock was currently working as secretary for the Van Wert County Veteran’s Service Commission. He retired as treasurer of the Ohio State Veteran’s Association after 51 years and had also worked for the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department for 16 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a life member of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert. He was also a past member of the Van Wert County Fair Board and was a fairgrounds groundskeeper.
    In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Rick (Cathy) Pollock of Galion, Randy (Jo Ann) Pollock and Dana (Ronda) Pollock, both of Van Wert, and Kevin (Jill) Pollock of Hilliard; five brothers, Murlin (Pat) Pollock of Van Wert, Ernest (Ann) Pollock of Phoenix, Ariz., Edward (Phyllis) Pollock of Lima, Frank Pollock of Middle Point, and Carl (Karen) Pollock of Florida; two sisters, Elsie M. Long of Middle Point and Shirley (Harold) Wagoner of Delphos; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
    A son, Larry Pollock; four brothers, Richard, William “David”, Stanley and Gene Pollock; and two sisters, Betty Miller and Joann Robidoux, also preceded him in death.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Dr. Jody Harr officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point, where military graveside rites will be performed by the combined honors units of Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.
    Visitation is from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the funeral home.

CARRIER
    Burton Carrier of Convoy died at 9:35 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at Van Wert Manor I Van Wert after a recently diagnosed illness.
    He was born September 6, 1920, in Tully Township, the son of the late Howard and Beulah (Gilbert) Carrier. He married W. Jean (Schwarck) Carrier, who survives.
    Other survivors include five daughters, Deanna (Tom) Mosier, Kay (Tom) Lambert, Beth (John) Muntzinger, Stella (Thane) Thatcher and Lisa (David) Gibson; two sisters, Doris Meyer and Mable Bell; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
    A daughter, Robin Mascorro; one sister, Betty Ball; and four grandchildren, also preceded her in death.
    Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Thursday, May 1, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.
    Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

RUSSELL
    Catherine L. Russell, 40, of Cloverdale, died at 6:15 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
    She was born March 13, 1968, in St. Marys, the daughter of Donald King, who survives in Celina, and the late Judith (Thompson) King. She married Kevin L. Russell, who also survives in Cloverdale.
    Other survivors include twins Paul and Andrea Beery of Delphos; a daughter, Ashly (Roberto Madrit) Morris of Delphos; her grandmother, Helen Ralston of St. Marys, who raised her; a stepson, Donald (Kristin Stechschulte) Russell of Findlay; an aunt and uncle, Jerry and Jacki Thompson of St. Marys; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
    A stepdaughter, Amanda Russell, also preceded her in death.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, with the Rev. Harmon officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time.
    Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the funeral home.

RIDER
    Lake W. Rider Sr., 68, of Scott, died at 11:45 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at his son’s residence.
    He was born November 14, 1939, in Neola, W.Va., the son of the late Oscar W. and Almedia G. (Dilley) Rider. On July 15, 1959, he married Judith A. “Judy” Rider, who died in 1994.
    Survivors include eight children, Lake (Jen) Rider Jr. of Delphos, Robert (Deb) Rider, Betsy (Donald “Cook”) Seekings, Karen (Mark) Poling and Gwen (Brandon) Thomas, all of Van Wert, Jeffrey (fiancée Tara Bakle) Rider of Paulding, Douglas (Krys) Rider of Ohio City, and Judi (Matt) Thomas of Decatur, Ind.; two brothers, Lonnie Rider of Covington, Va., and Aubrey H. Rider of Youngstown; five sisters, Lucy Rider of Hot Springs, Va., Bertie Jane (Richard) Smith of Lexington, N.C., Marie (Ray) Karnes of Columbus, Nancy Callan of Wheaton, Md., and Shelly (Manuel) Spahn of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
    A brother, Winters Rider; one sister, Clemie Armentrout; and a half-sister, Sylvia Landis, also preceded him in death.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 2, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with Pastor Matt Braun officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
    Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the funeral home.
