BAKER
William O. “Bill” Baker, 75, of Willshire, died unexpectedly Friday, August 28, 2009, at a job site.
He was born September 18, 1933, in Willshire, the
son of the late Walter and Rosa (Dietrich) Baker. On May 10, 1959, he married
Berniece (Werling) Baker, who survives in Willshire.

owned and operated Baker Construction for 50 years and was a longtime Willshire
Township farmer. He was a graduate of the Willshire High School Class of 1951
and served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He was a lifelong active
member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm and was a member of Homer Pierson
American Legion Post in Willshire and Willshire Lions Club.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Brent A. (Beth) Baker and Brian K. (Lorna) Baker, both of Willshire; a daughter, Brenda L. (Todd) Matthews of Ohio City; four grandsons, Braden and Andrew Baker, both of Willshire, and Tyler and Tanner Matthews, both of Ohio City; and four granddaughters, Rebecca, Amie and Emilie Baker of Willshire and Danielle Matthews of Ohio City.
A sister, Betty Baker, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, at Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm, with Pastor Jeff Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Schumm.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday, August 31, and from 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Ind.

CULVER
Phyllis Ann Culver, 66, of Middle Point, died at 12:42 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2009, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
She was born May 20, 1943, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Eddie and Lucille (Shafer) Hammons. On November 11, 1980, she married William R. Culver, who survives in Middle Point.
Other survivors include a sister, Betty (Jim) Lane of Van Wert.
A son, John Adams, and one brother, Ralph Hammons, also preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 31, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Neil Hammons officiating.
There will be no visitation.
