Death notices for LeVerne F. "Vern" Schulte, Charles Robert McCoy and Stanley D. Sill.

 

SCHULTE
    LeVerne F. “Vern” Schulte, 73, of Van Wert, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, at his residence.
    He was born August 29, 1934, in Kalida, the son of the late Frank and Freda (Edlebrock) Schulte. On September 17, 1955, he married Carlene (Fetzer) Schulte, who died December 17, 2006.
    Survivors include eight children, Charles (Bobbi) Schulte and Mark (Cathy) Schulte, both of Middle Point, Vern (Mary) Schulte, Dennis (Vickie) Schulte, Mary (Terry) Morris, Teresa Yoh, and Dale (Amy) Schulte, all of Van Wert, and Deborah Schulte of Venedocia; six brothers, Robert (Grace) Schulte and Jim (Darlene) Schulte, both of Delphos, Dave (Carol) Schulte of Van Wert, Paul (Linda) Schulte of Glandorf and Mike (Linda) Schulte and Jerry (Helen) Schulte, both of Kalida; one sister, Joann (Tom) Hermiller of Miller City; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, January 7, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Michael Zacharias officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
    Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, January 6, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, where a Rosary service will be held at 7:45 that evening.

McCOY
    Charles Robert “Bob” McCoy, 83, of Convoy, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008, at his residence. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-
grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.
    He was born October 19, 1924, in Union Township, Van Wert County, the
son of the late Charles J. and Helen (Heil) McCoy. On August 1, 1945, he married Ruby (Stuckey) McCoy in a military ceremony in Dothan, Ala. She survives in Convoy.
    Mr. McCoy was a retired grain and dairy farmer. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Convoy, where he held the offices of chairman, elder, and deacon, and was a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the church choir for 62 years. He served his country during World War II as a U.S. Army Air Corps fighter pilot, with the rank of lieutenant. At his death, he was a member of the Convoy Community Foundation, American Legion Post 208 in Convoy, was active in the North Fort Myers, Fla., Bayshore Village shuffleboard team and was an honorary member of the Crestview FFA. He was a 1942 graduate of Union High School, served as a school board member for Crestview Local Schools, had served on the Convoy Equity Board of Directors and was a member of the Van Wert County Holstein Association. He formerly played on the Redeemer Lutheran fast-pitch softball team, served on the Production Credit Association Board of Directors and was a member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau He enjoyed golf, shuffleboard, was an Ohio State Buckeyes fan, a strong follower of Crestview sporting events and loved spending time with his family.
    In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Dennis (Jill) McCoy, Jeff (Gale) McCoy, Kathy (Randy) Custer, and Rick McCoy, all of Convoy, and Sherri (Dave) Springer of Van Wert. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
    A brother, William McCoy, and one sister, Dorothy Harris, also preceded him in death.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 7, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Convoy, with the Rev. Michael Saylor officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, with graveside military rites performed by combined honor units of Convoy and Van Wert American Legion posts and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert.
    Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, January 6, and an hour prior to services, all at the church.
   
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Hour of Worship, Redeemer Lutheran Building Fund or Community Health Professionals-Hospice program.

SILL
    Stanley D. Sill, 69, of Rockford, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Lima Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since New Year’s Day.
    He was born August 7, 1938, in Rockford, the son of the late Bill and Bessie (Bienz) Sill. On June 2, 1959, he married Katy (Amstutz) Sill, who survives in Rockford.
    Other survivors include two sons, Tony Douglas (Tracy) Sill of Van Wert and Rusty Duane (Diana) Sill of Rockford; a brother, Jerry Lee (Marjorie) Sill of Rockford; and six grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Robert Loar officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.
    Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, January 6, and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
