Crime Stoppers' Crime of the Week

Crime Stoppers will pay you cash for information if it will help the Van Wert County Sheriff's Department solve a burglary to a home in the 18000 block of Wetzel Road in Jackson Township. Sometime between 11:20 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, someone entered a residence on Wetzel Road. Once inside the home, the intruders ransacked the house and took a laptop computer. If you have information about these crimes, call Crime Stoppers at 419.238.STOP. You will not have to give your name or reveal your identity.

Van Wert police department

Criminal Reports

Chandresh Bahadur of Barrington, Ill., reported the theft of a Garmin GPS unit while he was staying at the Holiday Inn Express, 840 N. Washington St., sometime between 8 p.m. June 29 and 9 a.m. June 30.

Two thefts from vehicles in the parking lot at Greif Bros., 975 Glenn St., were reported this week. James Schleeter reported that money was taken from his vehicle while parked at Greif, as did Charles R. Goleman, who said the thief got away with mostly loose change from his vehicle. The thefts occurred sometime between 11:30 p.m. July 1 and 1:30 a.m. July 2.

Spoor Construction, 201 Sibley St., was the site of a theft of aluminum cans and extension cords sometime between 11 a.m. June 29 and 7 a.m. June 30.

Van Wert High School Principal William Clifton reported the theft of a ring from the high school sometime between 12:01 a.m. and 5:09 p.m. June 25.

    John J. Bigelow of Jonesville, Michigan -- OVI; pleaded no contest; fined $500 and costs; 30 days in jail, 25 days suspended; operator's license suspended from 6/30/08 to 1/3/09.  Special conditions:  Upon payment of fines and costs five days in jail will be suspended.

    Nicholas A.
